A day at Eridan

A day in primary.

A typical day: the order of the languages depends on the class and the day.

From CE1 to CM2, French and English alternate by day or half-day. On Wednesdays there is class in the morning for everyone; in the afternoon, from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm, the Wednesday programme (Mercredis récréatifs) welcomes children in English (optional).

  1. From 7:45 am

    Arrival

Welcome at the gate, with optional before-school care from 7:45 am.

  2. Half a day

    In French

French, maths and civics. In CP, this happens in the morning: reading, writing and maths.

  3. At lunchtime

    Lunch

A meal delivered by a caterer that sources locally, with seasonal fruit and vegetables from organic or sustainable farming, and vegetarian meals. Or a lunchbox from home.

  4. Half a day

    In English

Discovery of the world, history, geography, science, the arts, music and PE. In CP, this happens in the afternoon.

  5. Every week

    Assembly and Spanish

Assembly brings all the primary pupils together, and Spanish has its hour.

  6. In PE

    Gym, sports ground, pool

The gym is on site. The sports ground, 400 m away, and the pool, 500 m away, are reached on foot along a safe pavement route.

  7. After class

    Homework study, clubs, childcare

Supervised homework study with the school's teachers, clubs, then after-school care until 6:30 pm (6 pm on Wednesdays), depending on the options you choose.

Languages

Half French, half English.

Each subject has its language, and both languages carry equal weight: the school teaches French and English in balance, by half-day.

  • French

    Half of the time

French, maths and civics. For pupils from abroad, French as a foreign language (FLE) lessons as an option.

  • English

    Half of the time

Discovery of the world, history, geography, science, visual arts, music, drama and PE.

  • Spanish

    1 hour a week

Spoken only until CE1, then with reading and writing.

FAQ

Your questions about primary.

My child speaks no English, or no French. How will they keep up?

The school offers personalised language support to beginners in each language. A classmate guides every new pupil, and every child can talk in their own language with a tutor child. FLE (French as a foreign language) and extra English are also available as options, 90 minutes a week each.

Do you follow the official curriculum?

Yes. Eridan follows the French national curriculum to the letter, which makes it easier to settle into another school if the family moves.

How are the languages split?

In French: French, maths and civics. In English: discovery of the world, history, geography, science, art and music, and PE. Spanish is added for one hour a week.

What is Assembly?

Every week, all primary pupils meet to debate what is happening at school and in the world, and to give presentations in English or French. Bronze, silver or gold badges reward work, behaviour, progress or kindness to others, pupils sing the Marseillaise, and birthdays are celebrated in three languages.

Is there help with homework, and extra support?

Yes. After class, supervised homework study lets pupils do their homework with the school's teachers (€700 a year, days of your choice). During school hours, French and/or maths support is offered in small groups, and the school follows up pupils with a PAP (a personalised support plan for learning difficulties) or a PAI (an individual plan for a health need, such as an allergy).

Is there school on Wednesdays?

Yes, on Wednesday mornings, for everyone. In the afternoon, the Wednesday programme (Mercredis récréatifs) welcomes children in English from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm, as an option; that day, after-school care ends at 6 pm.

Testimonial

I spent 9 years at Eridan and the whole time, everything went really well. […] This school has a very high standard in languages. The teachers are fabulous. My best memories are the 2 trips to England, the snow class and the nature trip.
