Privacy and security on social media, a seconde project
In Sciences numériques et technologie, seconde pupils raised their classmates' awareness of online risks.
As part of the Sciences numériques et technologie course in seconde, pupils carried out a project entitled "Privacy and security on social media". Through their presentations, they made their classmates aware of the issues around protecting personal data and staying safe online.
They highlighted the risks linked to social media, especially cyberbullying, and explained how private information can be misused. They also shared practical advice for protecting one's privacy online, avoiding harmful behaviour and promoting a respectful environment. The aim was to teach pupils to use digital tools responsibly and safely.
What the pupils took away
- To protect against data theft, hacking, identity theft and cyberbullying, it is crucial to use strong passwords, configure privacy settings properly and report any harmful behaviour.
- Security aims to protect accounts with tools such as strong passwords and two-factor authentication; privacy is about managing personal data, which should only be accessible to authorised users.
- If poorly handled, social media can put both you and others at risk; research showed how companies sell users' data for their own benefit.
- Topics covered included protection against hackers, privacy settings and the mass collection of data.
- Lessons learned included never accepting cookies and being careful about who you talk to.
