Sunflowers in Nursery and Petite Section

Children followed the life cycle of a seed: sowing sunflowers, watering them and planting them in the garden.

This term we have been talking about lifecycles in the Nursery/Petite Section class. We started with the life cycle of a seed, and the children planted sunflower seeds in little pots and watched them grow.

When the shoots were big enough we transferred them to the school garden. The children have been watering them faithfully every day and have been astonished to see how much they have grown! Some of them are now taller than the children. We are hoping that before the term ends we will have some beautiful sunflowers and be able to see the seeds on the flower head, ready to start the process all over again next spring.

The children have also really enjoyed looking for other seeds: in their fruit at snack time, on a dandelion head in the garden and everywhere they go.
